Content Delivery Network
What is it?
Now offering CDN’s to all our hosting clients!
This is great news for all my hosted clients. What is the point of having a gorgeous site if your end-users, customers, and donors have to wait too long to see it?
While designing, optimization is always on the forefront of our minds. We make sure the site delivers small web-friendly images, lite-weight plug-ins of high quality, and back-end code that is simple, yet effective. This is great as is, but it can be even better!
Blue+Pine always builds our WP sites on our dedicated server space with Flywheel! Flywheel already offers blazing fast speeds but now… we can go even faster with CDN! Who doesn’t love fast site load times?
You might be scratching your heads… What the heck is CDN and does my site need it?
Definition of a CDN
CDN: A content delivery network (or CDN) is a network of servers that serves up your website and its assets from different locations based on the user’s location. For example, let’s say you’re not using a CDN and your site is hosted in San Francisco. When someone from, say, Spain visits your site, they have to retrieve all your assets from your server in San Francisco. The long distance between the two locations clearly takes longer than if someone from San Francisco loads your site that’s hosted in San Francisco. What a CDN does is serve your assets from, for example, New York, Seattle, Omaha, France, London, Beijing AND San Francisco (and many more). The idea is that users will hit the server closest to them and not sacrifice load time because there’s a huge distance between them and the server.
Unlike traditional CDNs that only cache site assets (*.css, *.js, etc.), our CDN offers full-page caching, which includes the full HTML of your pages. This vastly improves your time to first byte (which is super good for SEO)!
Fastly is an industry leading CDN provider trusted by some of the biggest sites in the world: BuzzFeed, the New York Times, Yelp, Pinterest, Twitter, and more. Now, your site can leverage those resources!
Does My Site Need a CDN?
- Do you have users visiting your site from all over the country and world?
- Do you have a healthy amount of visitors?
- Do you want your site to load so fast your hair blows back? (*it won’t really blow back…)
- Do you want to improve your SEO?
If you answered YES to any of these questions, then CDN could be right for you and your site(s).
